The faculty in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics are actively involved in teaching medical students. The Department teaches the following two courses in the preclerkship curriculum:
· PHYSIO543: Medical Physiology and Pathophysiology
· PHYSIO544: Medical Immunology
The Medical Physiology course provides coverage of fundamental aspects of human physiology and thereby is a vital part of the curriculum for first-year medical students. Medical Physiology sets the stage for understanding pathology and pharmacology and provides the framework that will be used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Medical Immunology course introduces the diagnosis and treatment of immunodeficiencies and autoimmune diseases. Medical Immunology is taught in collaboration the Institute for Immunology and is integrated with the Genetics and Biochemistry courses within the “Molecular Basis of Medicine” teaching block.
