High-end Mass Spectrometry Facility Overview

The goal of the UCI High-End Mass Spectrometry Facility (HMSF) is to bring emerging mass spectrometric technologies to and provide proteomic analysis for clients within and outside the University of California system.

Depending on client needs, this facility offers analyses for a range of protein-based inquiries, including proteome-wide protein expression, identification, quantification and structural interrogation of proteins and protein complexes.

Instrumentation

The HMSF is equipped with two LC-MS systems: a Thermo Orbitrap Fusion™ Lumos™ Tribrid™ Mass Spectrometer coupled to a Thermo UltiMate 3000 UHPLC, and a Thermo Orbitrap LTQ XL in-line with a Thermo EASY-nLC 1000 Liquid Chromatograph.

The facility also uses Agilent 1260 Infinity II and Agilent 1260 Infinity II Bio-Inert LC systems to facilitate separation of analyte mixtures through size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), high-pH reverse phase (HP), and strong-cation exchange (SCX) for optimizing LC-MS analysis. Laminar Airflow Workstation and SPD131DDA centrifugal vacuum concentrator for sample preparation.

Staff

The High-end Mass Spectrometry Facility is directed by Lan Huang, PhD, a professor in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics and faculty director of the UCI Genomics High-Throughput Facility (GHTF).

The facility is managed by Clinton Yu, PhD.
